School Supplies for 2011-2012

Click here to download the school supply list! This year, the Wellness Committee recommends purchasing regular, NON-antibacterial soaps due to safety concerns for the chemical, triclosan.

If you ordered one or more school supplies packets for the Fall through the EPI website, you will be able to pick them up in the cafeteria at Meet the Teacher Day beginning at 10:45am.  Please note that the packets will not be delivered to the classrooms as in years past.

The First Grade supply list inadvertently lists a specific brand of composition notebook that is not readily available. We apologize for the oversight. Any composition notebook with a dotted mid-line is fine and if you can’t find that – please don’t worry. The First Grade teachers will put a note in your child’s “Welcome” Letter with some additional alternatives.

BHE PTA Wins Texas PTA Legislative Award!

The Texas PTA allows local PTAs to apply for annual awards at the end of each school year.  At the end of June we found out that the Barton Hills PTA was recognized as a Silver Award Winner for all of the Legislative activities we took part in this year.  We were the only school to win a Legislative Award!  Thanks to everyone who sent postcards throughout the Legislative session, spoke during Legislative hearings, spoke at School Board meetings, and participated in the Save Our Schools rally at the Capitol.  Due to your efforts we were able to secure one of the only Legislative Awards that the Texas PTA handed out this year.  A big thanks to Kelly Tagle & Celia Cole for getting the paperwork in so that the Barton Hills PTA could be considered for a Legislative Award.

Advocacy for Our School

On April 7th, 2011 our PTA hosted a special meeting to thank volunteers and highlight the incredible advocacy taking place on behalf of our campus. The slide show linked here summarizes our efforts. Go Eagles!

Congratulations Barton Hills Students!

We are very proud of the recent successes of our Lego League and Jr. Lego League teams, as well as our Reflections Program student participants. BHE’s Barton BioBots Lego League team was the only AISD team to win awards in the January 15th championship! They won 3rd place in robot design and 9th place in robot performance out of 58 teams. Our Jr. Team earned a “Most Robust Design” trophy! As for the Reflections Program competition, five students submitted stellar entries and one student’s visual arts entry advanced to the State Level. Way to represent BHE! Learn more about these and other BHE programs here.

Carnival Sponsors Needed

Sponsors needed for the BHE Carnival.  We are reaching out to local businesses and the BHE community for sponsorship for the Carnival.  Sponsors help the carnival to be profitable and  we need your help.  If you would like to be a sponsor for the Carnival, please check your child’s Thursday folder and return the sponsorship form.  IF you know of a business who would be interested in sponsoring the carnival, please contact the Carnival Sponsorship Chair: Suzanne Soares @ ssoares1@austin.rr.com and we will contact them!  Thank you.

Volunteer of the Month

Every month we feature a special parent who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help make this school the best it can be! In this space every month, read about the amazing things parents are doing for the kids of Barton Hills Elementary. We hope it will inspire you to see how you can help!

April/May 2009 Volunteer of the Month

Deann Eisenhauer

Deann Eisenhauer

Congratulations to our April/May Volunteer of the Month, DeAnn Eisenhauer.  While currently finishing her second term as treasurer she has also been involved in many other areas of the school, including the website, school supplies, directory and carnival.

Mom to 2nd grader Maddy and incoming Kindergartner Andrew, DeAnn is looking forward to having both children at Barton Hills next school year.  With all of that “free time” she plans to return to work in the fall and restart her career in accounting.

Our April/May Volunteer of the Month is sponsored by Boy Scouts Pack 14, Den 5, a Barton Hills 1st grade troop led by Eddie Torres.  Congratulations, DeAnn, and thanks for your dedication to our school!
