About the Library

The mission of AISD libraries is to nurture a lifelong appreciation of reading and learning by assuring that students and staff have opportunities for successful access, evaluation, and use of information and literature.

In order to fulfill this mission, the library provides open access to library services 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students come to the library on a weekly schedule with their class as well as any time during the day if acceptable with their classroom teacher.

Additionally, Barton Hills celebrates reading by sponsoring a Book Fair each December. Students visit the Fair two times with their classes, once to browse and once to make their purchases. The Book Fair provides the perfect opportunity to make selections for personal enjoyment, gifts, and the classroom.

Meet Our Librarian, Mrs. Jenny Day

Mrs. Day is a native of San Antonio but has lived in Austin since 1981. She is married to John Day and has four kids.

She taught for 3 years before her life was taken over by her kids. After staying home for 8 years she substituted for 3 years and then discovered that being the school Librarian is THE BEST JOB!!!. She obtained her certification from UT in 2002 and became the librarian at Boone Elementary.

In 2005, she did what many of us dream of doing. She sold the house, cars and stuff and traveled around the world for 9 months with her family. She biked and backpacked through 18 countries!

“I am so excited to be at Barton Hills and eager to help your kids experience the joy of reading.”

Box Tops for Education

Clip the Box Tops from participating General Mills products and write your child’s name and teacher on the back.  Send them to school with your child to place in the “Box Tops” box during library time.  Each month the librarian draws two Box Tops out of the box, and both of those students win a free book from our Book Fair.  All of the Box Tops are mailed to General Mills, who send us 10¢ per Box Top, which is used to purchase books for our library. Click here for more info about Box Tops for Education.
